Tips for Cleaning & Maintaining Your Sash Windows

At Super Sash Windows, we understand the importance of keeping your sashes clean and well-maintained. Not only does this help retain the windows’ aesthetic appeal, and it prevents damage from dirt, dust particles, and other contaminants, which can lead to rot or corrosion if not attended to promptly.

To ensure that your windows remain in the best condition possible for years to come, here are some key tips:

Clean Regularly

No matter what type of sashes you have installed – wooden frames or uPVC ones – regular cleaning is essential. At least every six months, you should thoroughly clean each window pane with a soft cloth and warm soap solution (for uPVC plastic) or a damp sponge with white spirit on raw timber surfaces. This will remove any dust and grime build-up, which could otherwise corrode the frame over time due to moisture intrusion through cracks in its material. It will also prevent droplets from forming on their inside parts when they react with humidity in the room.

Moreover, by performing regular maintenance checks, you can determine whether any repairs need doing before anything further deteriorates; check hinges, locks and stays plus weather strips regularly for signs of damage or wear & tear, so problems don’t become more severe down the line. Addressing issues as soon as you notice them helps reduce costs associated with total replacement – often unnecessary but far too frequent!

Choose The Right Solutions For Different Surfaces

When cleaning both interior/exterior sides of sashes, use only solutions suitable for their material; spot test an area using different types until you find one that works best without damaging colouring or finish coatings (such as varnish). For example, water mixed with mild detergent usually does perfectly well when dealing with painted surfaces, whereas harsher solutions may harm paintwork, leaving abrasions behind, so always proceed cautiously!

Furthermore, never use harsh scourers made out of steel wool either—or any other type of metal scrubbing pads—on glass panes during washdown operations because these items scratch glass easily, leaving unsightly marks irreversibly printed into its surface faces. Finally —and importantly—ensure all excess liquid drips away properly at bottom corners where base rails sit against sill angles; otherwise, trapped water ends up rotting wood over time due to its ability to rapidly absorb external moisture sources while stored within these crevices!

At Super Sash Windows, our mission is to enhance the beauty and longevity of your sashes. Our team is highly experienced in window maintenance — from repairs and restoration to painting and cleaning.
